On May 1, 2015 10:00am–4:00pm, the Wet Salvage Recovery Workshop will be held at the Georgia Archives. Every collection is susceptible to damage from water – whether from floods and hurricanes or from structural leaks and burst pipes. This hands-on workshop will give participants experience in dealing with the aftermath and with recovery of waterlogged materials.
Experienced collections conservator, Ann Frellsen, who assisted after Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina and is a member of the American Institute for Conservation’s Collections Emergency Response Team (AIC-CERT) will lead this session on how to recover collections after the water recedes. Participants will gain hands-on experience in the salvage of typical library and archives materials. Participants will also learn the importance of teamwork in managing an emergency response, including safety, public relations, and the recovery of wet materials. A wrap-up session will include time for questions, especially regarding specific collections or situations.
This workshop is free. Registration is required and limited to 20 participants. Lunch is on your own. To reserve your spot please e-mail Julie Newton by FRIDAY, APRIL 24 at jnewt01@emory.edu with “HERA 2015” in the subject line.
